The Link Between Sports Coaching And Life Coaching

Think of some of the world’s greatest athletes: Lionel Messi, Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps, Serena Williams, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronda Rousey. While they are renowned for their moments of skill, creativity and individual brilliance, it’s fair to say that none of them reached the peaks of their careers without the help of their coaches.

For an athlete, a coach is someone who asks all of the right questions, provides appropriate feedback and helps to define the athlete’s strategy going forward. They focus on the athlete’s personal strengths, as well as helping them to address their weaknesses to ensure their opponents have a smaller chance of success. Coaches help athletes to prepare for their biggest occasions, as well as assisting with the recovery process, whether they win, lose or draw.

“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”

NOW,

imagine what it would be like if you have a life equivalent of a sports coach? Picture the effect it would have on your career and personal life if you had an inspirational leader or mentor, offering feedback, asking the right questions and helping you to prepare for the future.

Here at YOR, we believe that everyone should have a coach to accompany them throughout their life. Life and areer success takes just as much planning and preparation as sport, and all ambitious individuals should have access to someone who can help them navigate the highs and lows of life’s challenges and difficulties.

Where athletes and their coaches must ensure their bodies are in prime condition, achievement coaches focus on ensuring their protégés minds are sharp, creative and ready for anything. Coaches may focus on strategy before a big game, pinpointing the opponent’s weaknesses and laying out a comprehensive plan for the match. The same goes for achievement coaches and mentors – they can help their mentees lay out a plan for the rest of their careers, focusing on their strengths and developing their areas of weakness to enhance their chances of success.

Our personal coaching service does for professionals what sports coaching does for athletes. We offer the support you need to grow and develop, realising and achieving your full potential. We’ll help you make the important changes necessary to reach your personal goals and fulfil your dreams.

We seek to build close relationships with each of our mentees – we believe that’s the most effective way to facilitate change. Our focus is long-term. Of course, we’ll offer advice and assistance to help you succeed in the short-term, but the emphasis of all our coaching services lies in sustained personal achievement that lasts. We don’t believe in quick fixes – it’s hard work, motivation and commitment that breeds success, not a get-rich-quick scheme or an off-the-shelf strategy!

We’re currently in the process of being accredited by the ICF – the International Coach Federation. This will ensure our services are of the highest standards, aligned with the International Coaching Federation Code of Ethics and 11 Core Competencies.
